Spicers Press Release
21st December 2007
Spicers’ Synergy conference
helps dealers ‘green’ their businesses
“The big issue for 2008 is the ‘greening’
of UK business which is why we took climate change
and its impact on commerce as the theme for the
2007 Synergy conference. This went down very well
with dealers who seem to be increasingly concerned
about this issue,” explained Nick Wilkinson,
Synergy Business Manager at Spicers.
“While not wishing to scare dealers into
action, the facts around climate change are very
gloomy. However, as a trade we can do much to
“green” our channel and create a win/win
situation - good for business, good for the planet.
That’s the challenge for 2008.”
The conference was designed to present fact rather
than fiction about climate change and its impact
on business, and featured three experts in the
field: Dr Paul Williams, a climate science expert
from the University of Reading, eco-auditor Donnachadh
McCarthy and management Accountant Anthony Day,
who spoke about the practical effects of climate
change on business.
There was also an update from Spicers on the
wholesaler’s developing environmental policy
as it moves toward ISO14001 accreditation and
further.
After lunch, delegates took part in The Green
Berets, a fun exercise designed to raise awareness
of green issues, followed by a session on practical
action planning.
“The event was very thought provoking,
and has helped focus our green activities for
2008,” said Damien Griffin of Image Office
Supplies.
